Construction Chemistry in Research

Research solves problems, answers open questions and creates innovation. This is why universities, research centers and industry alike have a focus on continuous research.

The results of university research projects are often published through dissertations (doctoral theses). The topics of the past years therefore provide a good overview of current research fields.

Scientific organizations, too, conduct research related to chemistry of building materials. Examples are the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) or the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP).

Research results are published in dedicated journals and discussed at conferences. Distinguished diploma and doctoral theses can receive awards , thereby underlining the importance of young academics in construction chemistry.

In industry, research is generally an applied science with a focus on generating marketable innovation within a short timeframe. Patents are a common means of securing sustainable and economic use of such new knowledge and competence. A patent research thus gives an overview of new developments in recent years.

Industry also runs its own research centers, e.g. the BASF competence center for construction chemistry in Trostberg or the research institute of the German Cement Industry Association (FIZ) in Duesseldorf.
